Heads-up … 5PM until 2AM every Wednesday night Yumla sells all standard drinks & bottled beers for $40 and pints of Budvar at $50. More expensive than 7-11 but … shit, our seats are more comfortable and the sound system isn’t playing local news radio.
Also, to re-launch our mid-week music policy (which sadly faltered in 2009) keep an eye on our schedule for a new & wide range of alternative music; soul & funk, rawk, underground & UK hip-hop, dubstep, indie & pop-electro, roots & dub plus a few other genre names I can’t list here without looking like a trainspotting tosser.
Different DJs with different agendas, different crowds and no 4/4. We push enough of the boom-boom on weekends! More details coming very soon

massive month with probably the widest spectrum of music we’ve displayed in a long while.
and remember!!!: from now on, every wednesday is $40 standard drinks & $50 pints all night long with no cover charge. Get some!
Well this month’s schedule is still late, no denying that… but at least we can confirm the imminent arrival of multiboy along with cohorts drafus & the prawn for an epic thrash-up this coming weekend: fab friday falls on friday 12th february, flipping-off from 10pm sharp.
Entry is a paltry $100 which includes one of our famously over-proof standard drinks upon entrance … and if we hear one complaint about door charges this weekend, someone’s going to get hosed down with hot cheap brandy & set ablaze in the park while the sound of The Kills and/or Plastikman and/or Barry Manilow plays on in the background. And all the while people inside will be dancing, and not caring for your fiery plight. Warned.
Dance like no one’s looking! Dance like you’re on fire. Dance like the God of Insanity hijacked your body and took some limbs out for a joy-ride.
See ya Friday!
got some great nights lined up this month!
the return of drafus, the prawn & multiboy on the friday 12th; kid fresh & dj enso journey even further into “the secret lives of…” on the 20th.
tonight sees grrrl power holding down the fort with wendy wen, kerri & ocean lam on our resident minimal / techno trip and tomorrow night le salles grosse is back on the schedule with nomad & epZ featuring special guest zam-x all the way from… actually we’re not sure where he’s from! but he’s here anyway!
full schedule to drop over the weekend – just confirming a few more details – check back tomorrow! but for now, shut the computer down and get yer ass out the door for some loud music & even louder drinking.

woot! online before the end of the month :)

… uh! appears to be late. Start the year as you mean to go on :)
This coming Saturday night is a bit special: DJ Enso, Kid Fresh and a very special guest are making a (hopefully soon to be less than) rare appearance within our hallowed basement. Expect the unexpected from these guys – they promised us something completely different from their usual fare (is all we’ll say at this point) – suffice to say we’re pretty excited to have them on the schedule. Get some!
And for Friday 8th (that’s… tonight) Yann Kayode & Ma Sir are ripping the tech-electro genre a screaming new butthole with 6 hours of the finest dirt funk money can buy. Only they ain’t selling it. Just lettin’ you borrow it. But you have to give it back…
Kick off is early on both nights – 10PM start – and be sure to ask the staff about early evening drinks specials (’cause I sure as hell don’t know what they are).
And my fung shui skills tell me that next Friday 15th is drum and bass in the form of Boom Drop, and that’s about as far ahead as we’ve got planned! More coming soon, promise.

Just a couple reminders for the coming weekend: Tomorrow night (Thursday 31st December) is New Year’s Eve featuring Wendy Wenn, Basil Tam, Ocean Lam, Frederik Borgesius, Taku Hirayama and Yann Kayode plus guests… cheap booze starts 9PM and music ends 7AM so what else is there to know!
Now – sadly – Frederik Borgesius (who has been with us since the autumn) has come to the end of his contract in Hong Kong and will be returning to Holland. Not to fear! We shall be seeing Fred off in style with a massive farewell party Saturday 2nd January, where he will be playing records and getting plastered. Join us from 10PM!
n.b: Yumla will be shut Friday 1st January… working on New Year’s Day? Screw that!
The Hong Kong Dog Rescue charity are to be evicted from their Pok Fu Lam kennel property come February 2010.
Please do not comment about corporate greed blah blah blah as that is not the issue here: The current property owners (Jones LaSalle) are simply exercising their right to make money.
Instead, please comment if you have any bright ideas otherwise head over to the HKDR web-site, contact the staff and see if you can help. Three months to shift a charity & volunteer run operation is really not nearly enough time; and the list of necessary requirements for a new site are quite daunting.
Despite being one of the largest animal welfare charities in Hong Kong, this kind of property issue is a massive problem for HKDR and the hundreds of animals they care for. Funds are just not available for a move like this.
With Xmas around the corner – if you are considering a pet – simply adopting one of the existing dogs from HKDR to free up space before February would be of huge assistance to them. Pass the info on – many thanks for reading.

Please note that Yumla will be shut on Friday December 25th (more commonly known as “Christmas Day”) and Friday January 1st… Go hard on the Eves before, then rejoin us for Saturday.
More details to follow for New Year’s Eve, traditionally a massive night and this 2009-2010 will be no different!
