yumla is the only venue in Hong Kong to specialise in cutting edge techno & tech-house, electro, breaks and drum n’ bass. no really… we are the only place for non-commercial club music in the entire city. now that’s cleared up…

back story

Yumla started out as a drunken concept late in 2002, and after a number of months, hiccups, late nights wrangling and pure turns-of-luck we opened to great public fanfare on Thursday 16th October 2003.

At the time of our opening, Yumla featured the best sound system in town.

Partly in response to Yumla’s education of the local drinking crowd, more bars followed suit and as of 2009 the standard of bar & club PA in Hong Kong is second-to-none in SE Asia. You’re welcome! We continually upgrade and improve, so we’re still pretty far ahead.

music

Yumla exists for music and music only. There are far cooler and trendier bars to visit in this town, but at the end of the day we provide a home for all the underground genres of music which would otherwise not survive in such a commercial city.

From tech-house & minimal techno, dubstep and jungle, electro and hip-hop… even punk, UK indie and dub roots on occasion… our hand picked local & international DJs spin the lot with absolute passion. Take a walk around nearby Lan Kwai Fong, Wyndham Street or Soho and you’ll find honest-to-goodness club music in painfully short supply. If you find it at all.

For those of you not so anal about music,  we also sell booze! we think of ourselves as champion drinkers & connoisseurs; our free pour drinks are all branded and our measures are double.

Considering our location (*cough* Central rent!), Yumla  prices are fair however our selection is massive: numerous spirits & mixers, some excellent wines by the bottle, standard & in-house cocktails, bottled beer from around the globe and we even managed to squeeze pints of Bud?jovický Budvar on draught. our bar crew – michelle, josephine, des & denzong – will be more than happy to mix-up whatever drinks you want, and on weekdays they can direct you towards our special offers (usually 2-4-1 and $35 cocktails every weekday).
