yumla knows:martin eyerer

hark back to april 2008 and you’ll probably remember martin eyerer’s first appearance here in hong kong (at yumla, naturally).

after an astonishingly short two year absence mr. eyerer is back in town with a fat bagful of his distinctive brand of techno.

saturday 5th june, mark the date… this is a rare opportunity to catch one of the greatest techno producer / DJs of our generation.

even if you are only half familiar with what goes on here – you will already be well familiar with many of his tracks, courtesy the sets of our resident DJs! and speaking of residents; sharvax and taku hirayama are on support duties.

Saturday night this week, we are proud to be hosting two our of friends from Japan:

imai fukutaro & m@i, both of whom are visiting hong kong (and residents at yumla) for the 12 months, their night yashima offers a distinctly Japanese take on house & techno which – if you can remember our recent Asian Force parties – amounts to something pretty special! they take control from 10PM.

also, due to the public holiday, the long weekend starts early on thursday night with basil tam gearing up for one of his epic 6 hour tech-house sets in the form of one man orgy.

to make sure the weekend is a proper mess – up until midnight – the bar prices are $40 standard drinks and $50 pints. so get rolling! also worth noting that yumla*alt also keeps on trucking with cheap booze and alternative music; taku hirayama & company destroy wednesday night with the ‘music of black origin’ showcase that is macroy, decks start spinning 9PM…. $30 each or $300 for 12 chilli vodka shots. n.a.s.t.y.

since the beginning…

twelve of the finest DJs you'll hear, anywhere

twelve of the finest DJs you'll hear, anywhere

… yumla has always been about musical diversity & allowing all genres to grip an equal foothold in this commercial city of ours.

but for june 2010 – scrrrrap that idea! – we’re going all out techno every Friday & Saturday night, celebrating the core foundation of electronic dance music in all it’s many guises: techno, tech-house, minimal, dub-techno, acid and every other conceivable mutation of the genre, will all get their time.

and in keeping with the whole ethos; there will be no schedule, no events, no names in lights… just the pairing off of Yumla’s finest resident djs into new hybrid nights – different combinations & guests every time – the results of which all equally high quality, all equally different.

Anonymous underground music enjoyed the way it should be: Loud, in a basement, until sunrise.

10pm-5am every friday & saturday in june, $100 cover +1 drink with unlimited access to our exclusive 20,000 sq ft beer garden… new lighting install t.b.c… here’s looking at you Mr. Hall :)

Well brace yourselves … Fukuoka is coming to Yumla on Friday May 7th AND Saturday May 8th for two nights of techno & house, delivered direct to your brain cells by DJs Montea, Atsushi, Ko*Hayashi & T.B. alongside residents Taku Hirayama and Frankie Lam.

hong kong dog rescue mass-adoption

img_2116

yumla's very own Cody & Deckard, both rescue dogs

This coming sunday 25th April 2-5PM, HKDR are holding a mass-adoption / fostering event to help clear the ~170 dogs & puppies out of kennels prior to their impending eviction at the end of this month.

Yumla is one of the participating venues and you can visit the bar between 2pm-5pm this coming Sunday to pick-up one of the dogs, or arrange to foster. There are  many other venues around HK island so please visit that link to the FaceBook event page and find which spot is closest to you.

Hong Kong Dog Rescue has long been searching for a new kennel site, and after finding one piece of land they concentrated all their efforts applying for permission to build. These plans were unexpectedly rejected by the government on ecological grounds [Dan: this has to be a bloody first, someone in the government cares about ecology?! The Roadside API of 500 says otherwise, but I digress...] and as a result the land cannot be used. This untimely rejection in conjunction with no further lease extensions means the HKDR will be homeless in about 10 days time.

Even if you cannot adopt, please consider fostering one of the dogs for a period of about 1-2 months. In a city of 7 million and 250,000 pets, it cannot be that hard to find 170 homes.

hope & glory official after party
